A MERRY HEART: SCRIPTURES FOR THE CHRISTMAS SEASON

Kenneth Sullivan

The Christmas season is the most wonderful time of the year, filled with joy, celebration, and merriment. Here are some scriptures quoted from the New King James Version of the Holy Bible that remind us of a foundation for a truly merry heart:

  • A merry heart makes a cheerful countenance, but by sorrow of the heart, the spirit is broken—Proverbs 15:13.

  • A merry heart does good, like medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones–Proverbs 17:22.

  • I commend enjoyment because a man has nothing better under the sun than to eat, drink, and be merry—Ecclesiastes 8:15.

  • Go, eat your bread with joy, and drink your wine with a merry heart—Ecclesiastes 9:7.

  • A feast is made with laughter, and wine makes merry—Ecclesiastes 10:19.

  • He who is of a merry heart has a continual feast—Proverbs 15:15.

  • Let us eat and be merry—Luke 15:23.

With this spirit in mind, whether celebrating Christmas by decorating our homes or businesses, organizing Santa Claus visitations or toy drives for children, giving or exchanging gifts to families, friends, or coworkers, hosting or going to parades or tree-lighting ceremonies, caroling in the neighborhoods or churches, or having parties or feasts, I wish everybody a Merry Christmas!
