In Psalm 90:12, Moses prayed to God to teach us to realize the brevity of life, so that we may grow in wisdom (New Living Translation). We must realize that God has given us a short life here on Earth. Since life is short, we must grow in wisdom. Wisdom will multiply our days and add years to our life (Proverbs 9:11, New Living Translation). To grow in wisdom, we must fear the Lord Jesus Christ and obey His commandments; for Psalm 111:10 wrote: Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey His commandments will grow in wisdom (New Living Translation). He promises He will reward us with long life and give us His salvation (Psalm 91:16, New Living Translation).
Fear God and obeying His commands is everyone’s duty (Ecclesiastes 12:13, New Living Translation). Job quoted in his book that God says to all humanity that fear of Him is true wisdom (Job 28:28, New Living Translation). Fear of the Lord will lengthen our days, thus leading to a long life (Proverbs 10:27, 22:4, New Living Translation). If we are obedient to all of HIs decrees and commands, we will enjoy a long life (Deuteronomy 4:40, 6:2, New Living Translation). We should store the Lord’s commands in our hearts, so we may live many years and have a satisfying life (Proverbs 3:1-2, New Living Translation). Let us strive each day of our lives, fearing the Lord and obeying His commands; these are answers to a longer life. —Kenneth Sullivan
