Jim Jordan……….really?

Lynda Kirkpatrick

It always boggled my mind to understand how on earth the “Evangelicals” could support a man like Donald Trump. Now here they come with their support for Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House. I am well aware that Fox News may not report this kind of “news” on their entertainment station, however sooner or later one has to hear the truth from somewhere!

I am right in the blood-red State of Alabama, NORTH Alabama, where Trump received more votes than any place in the nation! I live in a small rural town with four red lights and a church on every corner.  I think it would be safe to say that a large percentage of these so-called Christians voted for Trump even after hearing his cursing rants at his rallies and the degrading insults that he inflicts on anyone who disagrees with him. One would think that the attack on our Capital, stealing classified documents, and his treason would be enough to kick him to the curb, but apparently, North Alabama finds no problem with this. Where in their Bibles does it say that rape, violence, lying, and stealing, are acceptable as Christain behavior?

When a person hears the garbage come right out of Trump’s mouth, how can you disregard it? The “grabbing them by the,” well you know the rest.  Hearing him rate women on a scale of 1 to 10, insulting women for their weight, (B**** please), and bragging about his sexual attraction to his own daughter. These are just a few of the disgusting things that have fallen out of that little round mouth. I fail to see how “godly” that is.

Trump has been found guilty of sexual abuse against E. Jean Carroll, an advice columnist. The jury also heard testimony from Jessica Leeds, a former stockbroker who said that Trump groped her against her will, and Natasha Stoynoff who said that Trump forced himself on her when she was doing an interview with him.  His first wife accused him of raping her, and a 13-year-old girl claimed that she was also raped by Trump. He has bragged about walking in the dressing room at the Miss Teen USA Pageant where naked women were present, “because when you are rich you can do things like that” said Trump.

Just when you think that the Republican Party could not stoop any lower, they are now supporting Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House.  Not only did he play his part in the attack on our Capital but his lack of good judgment goes way back.  Before being elected to Congress, Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach at Ohio State from 1987 to 1994.  During this time, Richard Strauss was employed as a physician in the Ohio State University Athletics Department. In the early 1990’s a former student, Adam DiSabato, Captain of the team told members of the Ohio House Civil Justice Committee that Jordan and other officials knew about the abuse and ignored it.  DiSabato said that Jordan and other team officials knew about the “open shower” facilities that facilitated the sexual harassment and sexual abuse of the team wrestlers. Based on the testimony from the abused athletes it is estimated that Strauss sexually assaulted and raped a minimum of 1500 to 2000 athletes at Ohio State from 1979 to 1998.  It was determined that Jordan aided and abetted in the cover-up of sexual abuse within the program.

DiSabato testified that Jordan called him “crying, groveling and begging” him to not testify in the hearing against Strauss. DiSabato testified that Jordan knew about the abuse and failed to do anything to stop it. Along with DiSabato, there were eight other wrestlers in the program who testified that Jordan did know and that several of them had personally had a conversation with Jordan about the abuse.

If elected Speaker of the House, Jordan will be replacing Matt Gaetz who is being investigated for sexual crimes alleging that he was/is involved in a sex trafficking operation and had sex with a seventeen-year-old girl.

Women here in District 4 certainly do not have a friend in the House of Representatives in Robert Aderholt. He has never voted in favor of a bill to benefit women in his entire career. He has even voted against women having birth control. He has voted against pregnant women on several different bills, including the Pregnant Women In Custody Act, and Pregnant Women’s Fairness Act.  He doesn’t think women are worthy of fair pay, equal rights, or protection against domestic violence. Keep that in mind as you see him doing his photo ops during Domestic Violence Awareness Month.

I am not ignoring the fact that Democrats should debate the Republicans over which party has more pedophiles overall.  Sexual abuse and misconduct do not have a partisan valence. You can certainly find some Democrats who have been accused and/or convicted of sexual abuse.  But……if the Republicans are going to smear the Democrats as “groomers” and pose as the nation’s poster party for protectors of children and claim their loyalty to Christianity, it’s certainly fair to bring this up. It is also valid to note that the Republican Party is weak in its response to recent scandals concerning its own. This goes back to Clarence Thomas.

The way Republicans set aside the vast array of sexual abuse charges against Trump and lined up behind him has been discussed so many times that one would by now realize that their actions are pathetic. Here they are now, circling their wagons around Jordan with no questions about his lying about his conduct as a wrestling coach.  A simple explanation would be that Jordan lied to cover up his complicity in a culture of tolerance around sexual abuse.  Either way, Republicans are choosing once again to support him in spite of this unresolved cloud. For now, the obvious conflict of interest remains. The Republicans have apparently decided that the committee in charge of sex crimes legislation should include one guy currently being investigated for actual sex crimes—and another who allegedly looked the other way on them. It’s not exactly the behavior of a party that cares deeply about sexual abuse.
