Local NAACP President Is Ready To Serve

Local NAACP President Is Ready To Serve The Communities of Gadsden/Etowah County!

By Elaine Harris Spearman, Esquire

The NAACP was founded on the beliefs that are embodied in the Constitution of the United States of America.  The organization supports democracy, dignity, and freedom.  We stand against all forms of injustice, as our founders charged in the establishment of this 111-year-old organization.

The mission of the organization “is to ensure the political, educational, social, and economic equality of rights of all persons and to eliminate racial hatred and racial discrimination”.  The vision is to ensure a society in which all individuals have equal rights and there is no racial hatred or racial discrimination.

There have been many organizations established, formally and informally, over the 111 years since the NAACP was founded.  They have all had a different purpose.  Many, or all, have sought to fight for equal justice and equal treatment for all people.  Some of the groups have prison release and legal representation as a goal.  Many of the organizations work in tandem with the NAACP.

We need your help in articulating the mission and goals of the NAACP.  At the Chapter level Gadsden (Etowah County) and in other cities, the organization is all volunteer.  No funding is received from the national or state level.  Our only fundraiser is the Freedom Fund Dinner where a community award and a scholarship to a young person are presented.

I will be happy to speak at any meeting that you may host; Sunday Church Service, or any special program that you may present.

The NAACP and other organizations are desperately needed as all of us endure turbulent times.  Churches have long been the entire community stronghold.

I look forward to joining with you as we fight a “save the community” battle. Thank you.
