June 14, 2025, will go down as the day “we the people” stood up to a nazi tyrant and showed the rest of the world that WE will make America Great Again! All over this country, from the streets of Washington State to the streets of the Florida Keys, we marched. We protested. We spoke. We came together and proved that Donald Trump does not hold the power of this great nation. We refused to be bullied. We did not cower and kiss his ring. We stood up for our democracy and defended our Constitution. We honored our Veterans who have fought for that flag we were flying, and we thanked them for the sacrifices that they made to defend our freedom. When we look at our Veterans, we don’t see “suckers and losers.” We see heroes.
It was my honor to be in Marshall County today. I saw some old friends that I had not seen since the Neighbors campaign. It is always good to see my dear friend Susan McKenney. She gives so much of her time and devotion to speaking on behalf of those whom Trump and his regime have silenced. Dr. Will Boyd read the Declaration of Independence, and I wasn’t the only one with tears in my eyes. There is a certain pride that comes with looking up in the sky and seeing Old Glory flying in the wind, and I felt that today for the first time in a while. And it felt good!
I am sure Trump will brag about the “biggest, best parade” in American history. The truth is, those seats were empty, and the streets were not crowded at all. He has his nazi moment. He wasted millions of taxpayers’ dollars on feeding his ego. While he was spending $92 million on his ego, the Republicans were voting to pass a bill to cut Medicaid from people who depend on it for the only healthcare they can afford to pay for heart meds and insulin; food assistance from families who depend on it to feed their kids; Pell Grants to help pay for their education; and severely increase the national debt with tax breaks for the wealthy. He has done a great job of convincing some Americans that immigrants are our problem. Yes, we may have a problem at the border, but think about this…. These workers pay into our system without any benefits of ever getting anything back. There will be millions of dollars lost from our Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid without the tax. Especially when Trump wants the wealthiest Americans to pay nothing in taxes. We would not have a problem with our economy if the rich and billion-dollar profit corporations paid their fair share of taxes.
Where did half of the population of this country conclude that a man who has filed for bankruptcy six times is a good businessman? Donald Trump’s business history has been so filled with disastrous ventures that it’s been hard to keep track of them all. The Trump Taj Mahal, which was built and owned by Trump, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1991. The Trump Plaza, the Trump Castle, and the Plaza Hotel, all owned by Trump at the time, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 1992. THCR, which was founded by Trump in 1995, filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in 2004. Trump Entertainment Resorts Inc., the new name given to Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts after its 2004 bankruptcy, declared bankruptcy in 2009.”Trump Shuttle Inc., launched by Trump in 1989, defaulted on its loans in 1990 and ceased to exist by 1992. Trump University, founded by Trump in 2005, ceased operations in 2011 amid lawsuits and investigations regarding the company’s business practices. Trump Vodka, a brand of vodka produced by Drinks Americas under license from the Trump Organization, was introduced in 2005 and discontinued in 2011. Trump Mortgage, LLC, a financial services company founded by Trump in 2006, ceased operations in 2007. GoTrump.com, a travel site founded by Trump in 2006, ceased operations in 2007. Trump Steaks, a brand of steak and other meats founded by Trump in 2007, discontinued sales two months after its launch. He is following this same pattern with our country’s economy.
The Big, Beautiful Bill that just passed the House was voted in favor of by every single Alabama Representative, including Robert Aderholt. It makes no sense why anyone in Alabama, especially a woman, would vote for a single one of these Republicans in Alabama. I am hoping that by the time this next election rolls around that these Trumpers will be so fed up with all of their underhanded, crooked, deceit that they will see the light.
I watched on YouTube the many No Kings rallies all over the nation today, and it brought tears to my eyes. Especially here, in Alabama! This is the most “red” state in the nation, and we here in District 4 live in the area where Trump received more votes than anywhere in the whole United States. It gives me hope. President Obama said recently, “We will move past this. I have faith in the American people that we will prevail and rebuild what we will lose because that is who we are.”
We as Democrats must finish what we have started. We have got to come out from behind the fear of being shamed by Republicans and stand up for our principles. We have every reason to be proud. It was the Democratic Party who got women the right to vote, Civil Rights, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, unemployment benefits, Fair Labor Standards, Federal home loans, Head Start, Education loans, Family Leave Act, Lilly Ledbetter Act, Peace Corps and many other benefits that Americans need every day. If you get overtime pay, paid vacations, and have a safe working environment, thank a Democrat. If you have clean water and air, thank a Democrat. Go down this list and see how many of these programs Trump and the Republicans are now trying to destroy. Be proud of who you are. We have made this country a better place.
Thank you to everyone who was out there today. You made a difference.
