Hickory, dickory dock
who controls the clock?
You never hear it tic or chime;
yet it controls all God-given time.
You cannot stop or reset it.
Its hours have perfect assignment.
Time goes by – it never ceases;
It seems to pass as it pleases.
It never stops what it brings –
Summer, Fall, Winter, Spring.
No one knows the day or hour
when the clock will display its mysterious power
ending all allotted time;
taking the breath of life it unbinds.
