This is an urgent message to the National Democratic Party:
This is a case where Joe Reed and his bunch rather have control of the Alabama Democratic Party than elect Democrats to public office. Reed is destroying the party just like he was on a path to do at Alabama State University and sensible Democrats need to push him out The Alabama Democratic Party hasn’t existed since Don Siegelman who won every single statewide office in the state of Alabama. Mr. Reed represents the downfall of the state party and only the National Democratic Party can fix this. If Alabama Democrats are ever to rebound they have to chisel out the destroyer Joe L. Reed just like the ASU Board did and for similar reasons ASU cited because his record leading the party is the same as in:
1. Whereas, Joe L. Reed has completely and utterly destroyed any confidence in his commitment to positively represent the Alabama Democratic Party and its legacy; and
2. Whereas, Joe L. Reed continues to generate negative energy within the Alabama Democratic Party through his continued power-hungry acts that have long overshadowed his significant success back so long ago.
3. Whereas, Joe L. Reed has in several elections in recent years abused his trust to fund candidates across the state and have proper training, and his failure to recognize his time has come and gone, has what seems to be an animosity against diversity within the party.
4. Whereas, Joe L. Reed, through multiple outbursts in opposition to diversity, and any matter he deems adverse to his will, continues to present a conflict of interest and opposition to basic democratic concepts such as fairness and inclusion; and
5. Whereas, Joe L. Reed, back in the heyday of the Alabama Democratic Party managed to “FIX IT” where he would have about 35-40 add-ons of people on the Democratic Executive Committee who’re not elected and this MUST BE corrected by the National Party in DC. If you take those 35 people he appointed he would be defeated; and
6. Whereas, Joe L. Reed violates the spirit of the Alabama Democratic Party by continuing to strong-arm the party like some dictator on a tantrum, and seeing the state party as his sole possession.
7. Whereas, Joe L. Reed’s lack of total vision has caused the State Party to miss many opportunities to grow and elect local & statewide candidates; and
Now, Therefore, be it resolved, that the name Joe L. Reed is hereby immediately and forever disassociated with good politics, diversity, fairness, and leadership, and let’s hope the National Party permanently removes his 35-40 add-ons also known as “Joe’s Enforcers” from the Alabama Democratic Party structure.
Six years ago I asked Joe Ward how can we change Joe Reed’s stranglehold on the Alabama Democratic Party and he said:
“I think that probably the only way that I know of is to change it is maybe by filing a complaint with the National Democratic Party and simply asking them to disaffiliate with the current Alabama Democratic structure and start all over. As long as Joe Reed has got those add-ons I don’t think you can get a vote to get him to voluntarily give up power”–Joe Ward
So what has Joe L. Reed been up to lately? You guessed it his old destroyer ways and antics it seems as if people wonder if Kelley is simply a figurehead for it all. Everything below represents why Joe Reed will go down as the very worst person to ever lead the Alabama Democratic Party.
1. Removing all the caucuses then forced by the DNC to reinstate them all except leaving out the Disability caucus because he erroneously thinks it would overshadow his Black Caucus. 2. Be on the team that writes the 2024 Delegate Selection Plan, supporting its unanimous approval by the SDEC then complaining that Biden shouldn’t be able to vet his delegates and supporting a different set of Delegates to the DNC convention. 3. Screwing up the election of Alabama’s DNC representatives by sending out computerized ballots to all the members with no instructions of an amendment to change the date of the election year for the DNC representatives and simultaneously a ballot of three candidates including son Joe M. Reed – then realizing that we can’t vote for officers by mail, has called for an in-person SDEC meeting two and half weeks before the most important election in our lifetime – when we should be out canvassing, etc.
*Joe L. Reed makes it mandatory attendance for ADC members, many of whom are SDEC members thereby packing the attendance list to secure whatever he wants. Allegedly Reed sometimes enlists non-SDEC members who are ADC members to impersonate SDEC members in the voting section.
