On September 22, 1862, partly in response to the heavy losses inflicted at the Battle of Antietam, President Abraham Lincoln issued a preliminary Emancipation Proclamation, threatening to free all the enslaved people in the states in rebellion if those states did not return to the Union by January 1, 1863.

We proudly congratulate Sha’Carri Richardson, a home girl from Dallas, Texas
an African American track and field sprinter who competes in the 100-meter and 200-meter races and won.  So proud, you go girl.
The fall equinox and the first day of autumn arrives on Saturday, September 23, 2023, at 02:50 A.M. EDT, 1:50 A.M. CDT in the Northern Hemisphere. The equinox occurs at the same moment worldwide.
