Bill Avery: The Veteran Soul Singer Bringing Back Authentic Music

Bill Avery, a veteran singer, and songwriter, has been actively involved in the music industry for over 50 years. Recently, the City of Gadsden recognized his contributions by declaring a day in his honor. Despite being 75 years old, Avery shows no signs of slowing down and continues to create music and perform live.

Avery’s illustrious career has led him to share concert stages with renowned artists such as Bobby Bland, B.B. King, Patti LaBelle, and the Temptations. His latest single, titled “Joy,” was recently released and is distributed by Music Access of Dallas, with whom Avery recently signed a contract. The single can be found on YouTube and is available for streaming on platforms like Spotify and Apple Music.

Additionally, Music Access has also distributed Avery’s most recent album, “Stop the Noise and Bring Back the Music.” The album consists of nine tracks, with one track featuring a different rap mix. Avery has been recording his music in Dallas, and the album’s title reflects his dedication to promoting old-school soul sounds. Despite being a member of the Alabama Blues Hall of Fame, Avery considers himself a soul singer rather than a blues artist! His musical journey has been influenced by artists like Joe Simon, Sam and Dave, Sam Cooke, The Manhattans, and Wilson Pickett, as well as the musicians he has performed alongside.

Avery’s goal is to revive the sounds he grew up with, focusing on songs that people can relate to. He emphasizes the importance of authenticity and creating genuine music that resonates with his audience. Avery’s performances have been well-received, and he continues to entertain crowds at various venues, including a free concert at the Mort Glosser Amphitheatre on “Bill Avery Day” in Gadsden. He frequently performs at casinos in Mississippi and the Memphis area and has also participated in the annual Ocean Drive Beach Music Festival in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
