STOP PRAYING FOR A BIG HOUSE…UNLESS YOUR GOD IS NOT THE OMNIPOTENT GOD

Curtis E. Gatewood

Contrary to popular belief – GOD’S BLESSINGS” do not come via large churches, large homes, fine automobiles, sharp clothing, large bank accounts, high positions, job promotions, and institutional validation. Do not confuse examples of God’s blessings with examples of envying the oppressor’s aggression and greed.

You are blessed when you have a child-like heart that is pure, honest, and free of envy, free of jealousy, free of insecurities, free of hatred, and free of corruption.
You are blessed with a spirit that “walks by faith, not by sight” – a spiritual “wealth” that causes you to remain wholesomely above life’s pressures that produce stress to the point of sleepless nights, self-destructive behaviors, addictions, dishonesty, self-dehumanization, desperation, and criminality when you are faced with challenges that appear insurmountable.
The oppressor has wealth – do you think it is because God has blessed the oppressor but did not bless the oppressed? A dishonest and abusive con artist might live in a big house and drive nice cars, do you think it is because God has given his favor to the villain and not the victim?
A drug lord could possibly own every imaginable form of a large home, fine automobiles, corporate jet, etc., do you think the drug lord was blessed by the “Lord of Lords?”
The aforementioned is why Jesus asked – “For has a man profited if he gains the whole world and loses his own soul?” This is also why he tested the Rich man by asking him to return his wealth to the poor.
Stop praying for a bigger HOUSE and start praying for a bigger HEART. Of course, we must pursue the necessities and comforts of life for us and our children. But “seek ye first His righteousness, and all things shall be added unto you.”
What good is it to have a big house if you are expected to lie, cheat, steal, step on others, or sell your soul in order to keep it?
Do what is right and have faith that God will do the rest.
