WE MUST BOLDLY PRIORITIZE…

…THE NEEDS FOR POOR BLACK CHILDREN/PEOPLE IN AMERICA

Curtis E. Gatewood

Today, Black Americans are dying in record numbers. In 2021, the number topped its highest on record and the way things are trending, 2023 will not be much better.

Also, a recent set of facts show that families “with children” are more likely to be evicted and Black families, even with higher incomes than their White counterparts are several times more likely to be evicted from their homes than any other race.
Black students are lagging at the bottom of the totem pole in terms of affordable/quality childcare and subsequently behind when entering school; all too often Black students will never catch up and become victims of out-of-school suspensions and expulsion disparities and set to become locked into the new plantations of youth detention, prison, poverty, and premature death. We bought into the notion that we no longer needed churches, communities, and civil rights organizations advocating specifically for “Black Americans.”
We must take a new look inside every church, every civil rights organization, every elected official and/or candidate’s list of priorities and find out what is being done to specifically address the alarming deaths and escalating hardships of Black Americans whose need for justice, reparations, and indiscriminate love since slavery, have never been fulfilled.
The “dream” has not only become more and more a “nightmare,” the time for sleeping is being met by a rude awakening or transitioned into a violent death’s “sleep” into the bed of eternity.
Chanting “Black Lives Matter” has not “mattered.” The hard reality is, “Black lives” have NOT “mattered” enough in America, and never has there been “enough” done to change the trajectory toward Black genocide and captivity.
Most importantly, WE Black Americans must become more deliberate and more willing to show BLACK love for OUR BLACK SELVES!
